Fox News Highlights Opposition to Eisenhower Memorial Design

On January 25, 2012, Bret Baier featured the opposition to the Eisenhower Memorial on his Fox News show “Special Report.”

The family of late President Dwight Eisenhower wants the designers of a planned memorial in the nation’s capital to go back to the drawing board.

It says the current model overemphasizes his Kansas roots and neglects his accomplishments.

The plans call for a life-size statue of a 7-year-old “Ike” surrounded by eight-story-tall pillars that hold up large steel mesh tapestries displaying Kansas scenes and images from his adult life.

The Daily Caller reports, it is not just the family who is unhappy with the plan for the $100 million effort.

Conservative commentator George Weigel calls the project a travesty that was steamrolled through the federal bureaucracy.

And the National Civic Art Society’s president [Justin Shubow] says he has not found anyone who likes the design.
